Self-exclusion: no end date, and an apoderado

Chile has one self-exclusion for every casino in the country. It has no end date, it needs an apoderado, and it ends only in person, together with that apoderado. Here is how it works.

Someone has decided to stop going to casinos, and wants the door closed to them. What does self-exclusion in Chile do, and what does it ask of them?

The short answer

Self-exclusion in Chile is one national register. Any adult can enrol, giving up the right to enter every gaming room of every casino in the country, the municipal-concession casinos included. It has no end date: it stays in force until it is revoked. Enrolling needs an apoderado, an adult the person names to support them through the self-exclusion and to be called if they try to get in. There are three ways to enrol: in person at any casino or at the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego; with the form signed before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature, uploaded to the Superintendencia’s site; or online with ClaveÚnica. It can be revoked no sooner than six months after signing, in person and together with the apoderado.

This page explains how the procedure works, step by step. Whether to use it is a decision for the person, and for no one else.

One register, every casino in the country

In the regulator’s words, a self-excluded person is an adult who voluntarily gives up the right to enter the gaming rooms of the casinos of the country, and one self-exclusion is valid for all the gaming rooms of the operators. The rules bind the casino operators licensed under Law 19.995 and the municipal-concession casinos alike.

At the door, the casinos control entry by asking every visitor for an identity card and checking the number against the register of self-excluded people.

No end date

The self-exclusion remains in force for an indefinite time, with the possibility of revocation under the rules. There is no term to pick when enrolling, and nothing runs out by itself: a self-exclusion that is not revoked stays in force.

The apoderado

Self-excluding has two requirements: stating freely, through the means set up for it, the will to give up the right to enter every gaming room in the country, and naming a person to act as apoderado. If the apoderado resigns, a new one has to be named.

The apoderado is an adult named by the self-excluded person to accompany them through the self-exclusion, giving support and help if they try to enter a gaming room, or do. To be one, a person has to be of age, not be self-excluded, and give a phone number and an email, different from the self-excluded person’s, where the casinos can reach them when the self-excluded person tries to get in.

The apoderado confirms the role through the means set up for it. Without that confirmation the self-exclusion is still valid, but it cannot be revoked. The self-excluded person can ask to replace the apoderado, and the apoderado can resign; neither changes the self-exclusion itself.

The apoderado is a person, not a formality. It is someone who will pick up the phone if the casino calls, and who will be there again if the self-exclusion is ever revoked.

Three ways to enrol

There are 2 forms, a digital one through ClaveÚnica and a paper one; both are on the Superintendencia’s website, and the paper form is also at the casinos. The paper form can be handed in at any casino in the country or at the Superintendencia, or uploaded through the Superintendencia’s website, and then it has to be signed before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature.

  1. In person

At any casino in the country, or at the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego, with the paper form. Signed in person, the form needs no notary.

  2. With the form, through the website

The paper form, signed before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature, and uploaded to the Superintendencia’s site.

  3. Online with ClaveÚnica

The digital form: fill in what is asked, accept the conditions, and send it.

Three ways, one register: whichever way is used, the self-exclusion is the same.

A form signed in person does not have to be signed before a notary, and the government’s service page says that in person only the identity card is needed. If the self-exclusion is signed in person at a casino, that casino has to recognise it at once and keep the person out of its gaming room, even before the Superintendencia has validated it.

The person takes on three duties of their own: not to try to get past the entry controls, not to bet in the casino, and to keep a current apoderado in the system.

What every casino has to do

  • At the door. An identity card from every visitor, checked against the register.
  • No promotions. No news of gambling, tournaments, events or promotions, from the casino or its loyalty club.
  • The card. The gaming or loyalty card blocked within two calendar days; credits returned when claimed; points and other benefits blocked.
  • If they get in. Taken out at once, offered a talk on responsible gaming, and the apoderado called.

Operators may not send information on gambling, tournaments, special events or promotions to self-excluded people, and the rule extends to the casino’s loyalty clubs, whoever runs them. The person’s gaming or loyalty card is blocked within two calendar days; credits on it are returned within five working days of a formal claim, and points, promotional credits and other benefits stay blocked while the self-exclusion lasts.

If a self-excluded person tries to get in, or is found in the gaming room, the casino keeps them out or takes them out at once, offers them a talk on responsible gaming, contacts the apoderado immediately and reports it to the Superintendencia. Bets the person placed after getting past the entry control stand: their prizes are paid, and the money used in those bets is not returned.

Ending it: six months, in person, with the apoderado

Revocation is done only in person, by the self-excluded person together with the apoderado registered in the system. It needs a minimum of six months since the self-exclusion was signed, and both of them at a casino or at the Superintendencia, with valid identity documents.

How a self-exclusion endsFrom the regulator’s rules on self-exclusion, chapter 3 of Title VIII.
The conditionWhat it asks
TimeAt least six months since the self-exclusion was signed.
Who comesThe person and the apoderado currently registered, together, with valid identity documents.
WhereAny casino in the country, or the Superintendencia.
If they cannot come togetherThe revocation form, signed by both before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature.
From whenThe day after the Superintendencia validates the revocation.

If the person cannot attend with the apoderado, they hand in the revocation form signed by both before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature, at a casino, at the Superintendencia or through its channels. The Superintendencia validates the revocation once every requirement is met, and the person may enter casinos from the day after that validation.

The way back asks for time and for the apoderado: six months at least, and the two of them together. A decision made on a hard evening cannot be undone on the next one.

The box below names the national self-exclusion and the regulator’s number.

If it stops being fun

If gambling stops being fun, the SCJ self-exclusion applies in every casino in the country. Minimum entry age: 18 (age of majority under Law 19.221; Law 19.995 bars minors from gaming rooms). The casino may ask for an official ID. More on responsible gaming.

Practice: can they, and how?

Level 1 gives a situation and asks what the rule says about it: where the self-exclusion applies, how long it lasts, the apoderado and how it ends. Level 2 gives something that happens at a casino and asks what the casino has to do.

Nothing is bet here, and nothing is random. Each question is a set situation, and the answer comes from the rules quoted on this page.

The practice table needs JavaScript. Here is one question from it, with the answer.

What does the rule ask?

  • To come with the apoderado, or send a form signed by both before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature Revocation is in person, together with the apoderado; if they cannot attend together, the form signed by both before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature can be handed in.
  • Nothing more: after six months the person can revoke it alone Six months is only the first condition: the apoderado has to be part of the revocation.
  • An email to the casino is enough The revocation form is signed and handed in at a casino or at the Superintendencia.

The self-exclusion is one national register with no end date. It covers every gaming room in the country, it needs an apoderado, and it can be revoked no sooner than six months after signing, in person, together with that apoderado.

What does the casino have to do?

  • Take them out, offer a talk on responsible gaming, and contact the apoderado at once The casino removes the person at once, offers a talk on responsible gaming, contacts the apoderado immediately and reports it to the Superintendencia.
  • Nothing, if they are not causing trouble A self-excluded person in the gaming room is always taken out.
  • Charge them a fine at the cash desk The steps the rules list are taking the person out, the talk, the call to the apoderado and the report.

Every casino checks visitors against the register, sends no gambling promotions to self-excluded people, blocks their cards, and takes out anyone who gets in; bets placed after getting past the door stand, and the money bet is not returned.

Every question in the practice run is worked out the same way: the situation is put through the rules quoted on this page, and the answer comes out of those rules.

How the practice run works

Where the questions come from. Level 1 follows the rules on who may enrol, where and for how long, the apoderado and revocation; Level 2 follows the duties of the casinos. The wrong answers are named misreadings: a self-exclusion limited to one casino or one region, a term to choose, a revocation without the apoderado, a promotion sent through a loyalty club, and a lost bet refunded.

One strip, and no rounds. Every square on the strip is one question of this lesson, and all of the squares are there from the start. Your first answer fills the square it belongs to; when the squares of one level are full, the next level begins by itself. Practising a question you got wrong turns its cross into “fixed in practice” and does not change the count, because only first answers count.

Your progress stays in this browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Three quick ones. Pick an answer, then check it. No timer, no points: just whether it stuck.

A question marked “New situation” asks you to use the lesson on a case it did not show.

1Someone self-excluded at a casino in one region. Where does it apply?

Show the answer

Answer: In every gaming room in the country, the municipal casinos included. The self-exclusion is valid for every gaming room in the country.

  • In every gaming room in the country, the municipal casinos included One self-exclusion is valid for all the gaming rooms of the operators, and the municipal-concession casinos apply it too.
  • In that region only The rules are national, and so is the register.
  • Only at the casino where it was signed There is one register for the whole country.
2How long does a self-exclusion in Chile last?

Show the answer

Answer: With no end date, until it is revoked. The self-exclusion has no end date.

  • With no end date, until it is revoked It remains in force for an indefinite time, with the possibility of revocation under the rules.
  • Six months, and then it ends by itself Six months is the earliest a revocation can come; nothing ends by itself.
  • A term the person picks when enrolling There are no terms to choose from in the rules.
3Ten months after signing, a self-excluded person wants to go back to casinos. What does the rule ask? new situation

Show the answer

Answer: To revoke it in person, together with the apoderado, at a casino or at the Superintendencia. Revocation comes after at least six months, in person and together with the apoderado.

  • Nothing: after six months it is over Six months is when revocation becomes possible, not when the self-exclusion ends.
  • An online request with ClaveÚnica, alone Revocation needs the apoderado, and is done in person or with the form signed by both.
  • To revoke it in person, together with the apoderado, at a casino or at the Superintendencia After six months, revocation is in person with the apoderado; if they cannot attend together, a form signed by both can be handed in.

Back to the question we opened with. Self-exclusion closes the door of every casino in the country, with no end date. It asks for an apoderado when enrolling, and for six months and the apoderado again to end it.

Where the rules come from. The self-exclusion is described from chapter 3 of Title VIII, Book II of the Compendium of Rules of the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (version 7, of 14 October 2026), from the government’s service page for the procedure on ChileAtiende, whose information the Superintendencia provides, read from a copy of the page saved by hand, and from the Superintendencia’s answers to frequent questions for the check at the door. Every claim carries a button with the sentence it rests on, in the document’s own Spanish, the publisher and the date we read it.

Three ways to enrol. This page gives the three ways that the Compendium and the government’s service page name: in person, the form signed before a notary or with an advanced electronic signature through the website, and ClaveÚnica.

What this page does not say. It does not tell anyone whether to self-exclude or whether to revoke a self-exclusion. It gives no figures on how many people are self-excluded. When a revocation may be asked for after the apoderado has been replaced is left out: the rule on it can be read in more than one way. What the door of a casino costs is lesson 0.9.

Help. The help block comes from the data this site keeps for the country: we found no gambling helpline for Chile in the sources we could read, so the block names the national self-exclusion and the regulator’s switchboard, and nothing on this page prints a phone number of its own.

Hosts. Maya is an illustrated character. Her backstory, a former floor supervisor, is written for the course: she is not a real person and does not speak for any casino. The rules and numbers on this page come from the sources it cites, not from her experience.
